I find great joy exaggerating the relationship of perceived chaos and geometry found in the natural world. My functional pottery consists of locally sourced clay paired with a balance of muted and reactive glazes I make from scratch. I live for creating intuitive forms with rhythmic imperfections and details. I find my greatest inspiration walking alone in nature and quietly noticing new patterns and specimens.

Artist Bio

Allison O’Brien leads Haw River Pottery in Graham NC. It is part teaching studio and part private studio where Allison creates handmade tableware, vessels, and sculpture utilizing local NC clays and glazes formulated from scratch. Allison grew up in Feeding Hills Massachusetts and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she earned her BFA with a minor in ceramics. Allison has been teaching art since 2016.
