Asja's Thread/String Art
Nails, thread, wood

My art focuses on the repetitive patterns of geometry. It is a beautiful fusion of wood, nails and string. The process of creating a piece varies. Some have a pattern, while others I develop the pattern as I work. Each piece is made with love, it is unique and can be interpreted in various ways. It is fascinating to me to come up with patterns and designs. They are so intricate and the process of repetition gives this therapeutic feeling of letting go of all the worries of the day and focusing on what is in front of you. These pieces draw people in and they are great conversation starters. There is this feeling of huge accomplishment when you see your pieces on individuals' walls.

Artist Bio

I am a self-taught artist that specializes in string art. I was born in Tomislavgrad Bosnia and Hercegovina and moved to Burlington NC in 2000 due to the Bosnian war. When my family and I moved to the United States, we did not speak any English. My husband and I started working right away to provide for our two children. As the years went by our primary focus was to make sure our children had a good life and graduate from college, and became who they wanted to be.
When Covid hit, our lives changed. Life slowed down and I was able to finally focus on my love of art. I taught myself how to design and make string art. My love for math helped manifested the intricate designs. Over the last few years, I have put all of my love into creating string artwork. Some designs are pure pieces of imagination because when I start them I do not know what they will be, while others, like the mandalas, are more pattern oriented. Each piece is locally made in Alamance County and it goes through a rigorous process of finding the right wood, drawing and measuring out the design, hammering the nails, choosing the colors, creating a geometric pattern to producing the finally. I get inspiration from the repetitions of nature and everyday life.
